Remember when we used to use maps to get places? Now we have a little electronic voice that tells us where to go, getting lost is not as fun as it used to be and have replaced arguing over who said we should turn left at the traffic lights and replaced it with patience waiting for the box "recalculate" disappears.
If you have not started in the world of satellite navigation, and you own an Android device, do you think you could use your phone or tablet as a GPS knew no extra cost? Even if you know where you are going in life, it is still useful to have a little voice assuring you that you are on the right track.
Did you also know you do not need WiFi to use your Android device for satellite navigation? The Global Positioning System (GPS) that leaves your Android device knows where you are, anywhere in the world, works through direct communication with a satellite way up there in space. It has nothing to do with your Wi-Fi; It is a completely different animal. It actually requires at least four satellites to provide information about the exact location but as long as you can see the sky, you should be fine. Do not use GPS for Android caving.
What is needed is access to download maps that allow your SatNav calculate where to drive, but you can eliminate the need for this just make sure you have all the necessary maps already downloaded before starting your trip. This does not mean that downloading individual towns or cities, usually, you can download an entire country at a time, and so unless you're participating in the Gumball Rally, a map should be sufficient.
A series of free applications are available in SatNav Play Store me help you out also providing free downloads of maps. As with all these things, some are better than others, but the options that might suit you better than another so try a few out. The ones I've found helpful, with maps of the United Kingdom for free and a good user interface and are Navfree MapFactor but the choice is amazing, just search for "free SatNav" on Play Store.
If nothing else, improve your relationships, as you can now blame your Android device to get lost and not the other.
